Preschool for California’s Children (PCC) Activities

Since 2004, The Children’s Collabrium has conducted community-based information workshops intended to expand the knowledge of early care and education practitioners about the movement to provide preschool services for every three- and four-year-old in California.

These sessions provide background information on the research related to the impact and benefits of high quality preschool programs, efforts both here in California and throughout the United States to offer Preschool for California’s Children services, public opinion regarding the need for preschool services and desired elements, and recent efforts to realize these programs statewide. As more and more communities move beyond the need for basic awareness of the movement into a more proactive position, The Children’s Collabrium has fielded requests for information on how to begin planning the local Preschool for California’s Children program. Consequently, during the current year, The Children’s Collabrium will
  • provide the basic information about the Preschool for California’s Children movement through 24 workshops in local communities chosen in consultation with Preschool California similar to those described immediately above;
  • deliver similar sessions as are outlined immediately above, but are provided at annual conferences of statewide organizations; and
  • offer Futures in Management Institutes in three communities that build the capacity of child care providers organizationally, especially as opportunities present themselves to apply for funds to operate preschool programs.
